Thank you, Zhiren, for telling us new expressions which adds to our knowledge about American culture.
But now in China, we are having fewer togetherings with faster living pace.
About 15 years ago, several families of us often got together. Mostly, we would spend weekend in my home, because I was a good chef and they were gourmets. We enjoyed the delicious dinners and interesting conversation about literature, about raising children, about anything we were interested in. Or we would spend summer holidays together somewhere, on an island, in the mountains or in a seaside city. None of us had a car then, so we took a bus or ship for longer time to get to somewhere. We didn’t mind the long journey for we had interesting companions on the way.
Now we have almost no visitors to one’s home. People just treat friends in restaurants to save them from the trouble cooking. They don’t go together in a bus or ship but in a small car which can only accommodate one 3-member family. The transportation is now easier but the togetherings fewer. Gone the Good Old Times!
